Job description:

Individual is responsible for preparation of competitive, accurate and profitable estimates and proposals for fabrication and installation of miscellaneous steel, ornamental steel, and structural steel, as well as other metal products in our scope of work for new and existing projects.

A welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.

Job Duties: (Not limited to)

  • Analyze Construction drawings from initial schematic design to construction set final drawing and specification to generate and get known detail specification about the whole project.
  • Understand company’s general contractual terms and conditions.
  • Provide clear detailed quantity take offs through On-screen takeoff software.
  • Complete Budgeting for projects.
  • Assemble accurate and well-organized project estimates and proposals through estimating software and Microsoft Excel database template in a timely manner for Stipulated Price, Design-Build and Construction/ Project Management formatted projects.
  • Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location and other factors to ensure a high quality and timely estimate.
  • Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid.
  • Utilize existing cost history as a check to complete estimate.
  • Apply mathematical calculations requiring advanced analytical processes to ensure logically estimated costs are accurate.
  • Analyze and communicate bidding risks, strategies and present estimate/bid to Senior Project Man ger for review to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze competition and communicate with owners, general contractor s, vendors, public and private entities to ensure competitiveness.
  • Request material pricing and other outside processing that may be necessary to complete an estimate.
  • Estimate multiple projects at the same time.
  • Establish a professional relationship with owners, contractors, and vendors to ensure the best service and price is provided.
  • Be flexible with respect to assigned tasks due to changing schedules, deadlines and priorities
  • Work in a team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Estimating experience preferred but willing to train the right candidate
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail is required
  • High analytical and mathematical skills required
  • Strong organization skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel required
  • 1 year of experience in steel estimating preferred

Work Environment/Physical and Ergonomic Requirements:

  • Dexterity: Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at and construction sites at any time of the year.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to discern single line and 3-dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafting including ability to discern colors. This includes close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.
